Bilateral Bulgarian – Romanian Meeting on Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure [01.07.2020]

The online bilateral Bulgarian – Romanian meeting on FAST Danube project– on environmental impact assessment procedure took place via CISCO Webex on the 1st of July 2020. Participants: AFDJ Galati, APPD Ruse, Halcrow Romania SRL/ Jacobs, JASPERS/ EIB, MTITC (BG), MoEW (BG) MoEWF (RO), MT (RO), ANANP (RO), GeoMarine Ltd. (BG)

The meeting agenda covered the following topics:

  • FAST DANUBE project status – EIA and AA Procedures:
  • Presentation about status of the development of the Management Plans for the NATURA 2000 sites on the FAST DANUBE project area;
  • Available information and what needs to be prepared for the development of specific conservation objectives for NATURA 2000 protected areas;
  • Methodology used for the development of specific conservation objectives for NATURA 2000 protected areas;
  • Validation of parameterized information for specific conservation objectives in protected areas in relation to DG ENV;
  • Next steps in the development of Appropriate Assessment studies and of the EIA study in the FAST DANUBE project.

Given the intention of a close correlation of the Romanian and Bulgarian EIA procedure process, the Romanian ANANP offered to present and share to the Bulgarian environmental authorities the new experience gained from the preparation of the SSCOs for N2K sites in Romania.

ANANP also offered to send to the Bulgarian authority some examples of SSCOs already performed for N2K Sites in Romania, to ensure that both authorities follow the same approach and methodology (already agreed with EC for another transportation project and applied for FAST Danube N2K sites).
