Field survey activities – EPC Consultanta de Mediu Team [8th–9th 2021]

During the period 8 - 10 September 2021, a site visit has been performed on the left bank of Danube to collect additional information for the development of the Appropriate Assessment Study, for Romania. The scope of the site visit was to observe and confirm the presence of the Natura 2000 species and habitats from the bank areas where are proposed to be build the structures for Scenario 1 and Scenario 2. A special attention was paid to the areas where there is a gap of information regarding the distribution of the species and habitats and no other reliable data sources are available to complete this gap. In this case the scope was to identify the species and habitats present in the area.

In this respect, eight observation points have been selected:

  1. CP Bogdan Seican - the location of the bank stabilization proposed for Scenario 2
  2. CP Dobrina - the locations of the bank stabilization and groynes proposed for Scenario 2
  3. CP Bechet - the locations of the bank stabilization and groynes proposed for Scenario 1 and 2
  4. CP Belene - the locations of the bank stabilization and groynes proposed for Scenario 1 and 2
  5. CP Iantra - the location of the bank stabilization proposed for Scenario 2
  6. CP Batin - the locations of the bank stabilization and groynes proposed for Scenario 2
  7. CP Popina - the locations of the groynes proposed for Scenario 1 and 2

From all the above locations, the site visit from CP Belene could not be completed successfully due to the very dense vegetation. Given this, it was impossible to walk along bank line and to get in the areas where the structures were proposed to be build.
